Twinning aims to foster a better understanding of other countries and their customs through individual and group exchanges. We have been twinned with Bernay since 1985 and with Horb since 1991 and we have established strong links of friendship with both towns.
Membership of the Twinning Association is open to anyone from our area who is interested in international friendship and all members have the opportunity of taking part in the weekend exchange visits that are organised by the committee. We stay with hosts in a twin town one year and offer them reciprocal hospitality the next year. Visits to Bernay and Horb are phased so that in the year we visit Horb, Bernay come to us and we alternate in following years. We travel to Bernay by coach and ferry, whereas we fly to Horb. We pay our own travel costs, but accommodation, food, etc are provided by hosts. Members may choose to visit one or both twin towns and it is usual to offer return hospitality. Contact can be arranged between local organisations and their counterparts in our twin towns. Many such contacts exist and are flourishing.
The Twinning Association is delighted by the personal support and encouragement it receives from successive mayors, town councillors and town hall staff, particularly as, like members of the Association, they fund such trips themselves and receive no subsidy whatsoever from local tax payers.
 Bernay is about 50 miles south of the Channel ports of Le Havre and Caen-Ouistreham, 35 miles south-west of Rouen and 96 miles west of Paris. Within easy reach are many attractive seaside towns, beautiful gardens and places of historic interest, such as Bayeux and the D-Day beaches. Bernay is a lively, bustling town of about 11,000 inhabitants, with a wide variety of shops and a renowned Saturday market. Its narrow streets are lined with 16th and 17th century half-timbered buildings and there is an ancient abbey.

 Horb is at the eastern edge of the Black Forest, 50 miles east of Strasbourg and 40 miles south-west of Stuttgart. Its picturesque streets have many houses with steep-tiled roofs and half-timbered façades. Beyond the wooded slopes on both sides of the Neckar valley lie numerous villages which have been incorporated into Horb, each having its own distinctive character. It is close to France and Switzerland.
